This power couple started making wine while working day jobs and living in San Fran.
Imagine they’d haul half tons of Healdsburg grapes up to their second story San Francisco apartment.
Wine making can be romanticized, but for these two it was...
Hydrating barrels in their bathtub,
Fermenting in a walk-in closet,
Stomping grapes with their feet.
Their ultimate dream: Get back to Petaluma, their hometown, and…..
Welcome the community to their tasting room.

Being in the wine club has serious perks.
Your own wine glass is displayed on the tasting room wall.
Reminds me of the craft brew experience where a person’s beer glass is hung on the wall.

A KickStarter campaign in 2015 gave them the $20,000 to open their tasting room.
Mike Barber is a self-taught winemaker.
His Zinfandel ‘Field Blend’ is quite unique.
Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet are interspersed and grown and harvested together.
This grape combination is fermented together rather than blending the wines later.
A Zinfandel blend that comes right from the barrel ready to drink.
Named after their vineyard rescue cat, aka Mr. Beast
While remodeling the Barber Cellars Tasting Room, a few interesting things were discovered:
Under the old linoleum floor was the original Douglas Fir floors.
A cool trap door leads to basement storage.
My sweet friend, Serena, just became a club member at Barber.
She can’t stop raving!
Serena and I met while teaching 5th grade in Sebastopol.
We no longer teach together but try and connect at least once a year.
She has an adorable little family: husband, daughter, and pup.
Date nights and walking to downtown Petaluma with her crew is something they love doing.
One night they stumbled upon Barber.
Instantly they were drawn to the laid back and family friendly vibe.
Of course I said, YES when she offered to bring me by Barber.
Such a lovely day we had.
We popped into the tasting room.
With rosé in our hand we walked around the hotel in awe of the glam decor.
Serena was born and raised in Petaluma and had the inside scoop on the hotel transformation.
We also popped into Truck & Barter and bought soy candles.
After our tasting, we trotted further into Downtown Petaluma, perused the shops and had a late lunch.
I can’t wait to visit again.
Sometimes I forget about driving down to Petaluma and how much fun I have here!
