Sheila's Recommendation

  • For wine tasting we often balk at a tasting fee being too expensive.
  • Yet, on Facebook I see many people spending quite a bit to attend 'wine and paint nights'.
  • The Meadowcroft 'A Perfect Blend' experience is $80.
  • No need to gasp at the price tag.
  • In this tasting experience you learn the art and science of winemaking.
  • You start...
Sonoma Wine Life At Meadowcroft
  • In the Meadowcroft vineyards.
  • A short walk to the vineyards, right on the Cornerstone property.
  • Our group was lucky to have Tom Meadowcroft as our tour guide.
  • Tom is owner and wine grower.
  • Nice, incredibly knowledgeable, and sweet man.
Tom Meadowcroft
  • Under Tom's guidance I got my nose right up close to the vines.
  • I took a whiff of some flowering/blooming grapes.
  • He showed our group two different grape leaves and how to tell the difference in varietals based on the leaves.
  • As we walked through the vineyards butterflies and ladybugs floated around us, quail darted by, and a rabbit hopped along.
  • After our vineyard excursion, we headed back into the tasting room.
  • Blending time!
A Perfect Blend At Meadowcroft
  • We explored barrel samples of Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Malbec and Merlot.
  • Tom walked us through a flavor and aroma wheel.
  • We identified different tasting notes for each wine.
  • We decided which of the barrel samples were our favorites.
  • Then the blending started.
  • Into our test tubes went different wine percentages.
  • I LOVED the Merlot, so for my first wine blend I had mostly Merlot and then some Cab Sauv and Cab Franc.
    Making Wine At Meadowcroft
    • The table was giddy with excitement.
    • We munched on cheese, chocolate, apple slices and crackers while we tasted wine and made two blends.
    • The experience ended with us bottling our wine creations.

    • We even got to custom label our wine bottles.
    • Let me go back to my wine and paint night comparison.
    • Don't get me wrong...I love a great paint night.
    • Often my paintings sit in the garage never to be hung.
    • My boyfriend and I left Meadowcroft with two classic red Bordeaux style blends.
    • On our way to the car we agreed.
    • We plan to save one of our blends for a special anniversary occasion!
